Pilgrim Church in Flinders Street, Adelaide, South Australia, was built as a memorial to the pioneer Congregational minister of South Australia, Thomas Quinton Stow, and originally named Stow Memorial Church. The land for the building was purchased in 1863 by the Freeman Street Congregationalists, and a foundation stone laid in 1865. The church was designed in the Gothic Revival style by Robert Thomas, who was also the architect of Flinders Street Baptist Church. The detailed stone carvings decorating the columns of the entrance porch (including a stone squirrel) were the work of Samuel Peters of Sydney. The interior dimensions are in multiples of seven, using the Old Testament references to seven as the perfect number. The seventy foot tower designed by Thomas was never completed.
