Description
The Alexandra Fountain in the centre of Bendigo's Pall Mall. It was named after the Princess of Wales and built in 1881 from 20 tonnes of highly polished granite and includes dolphins, unicorns, nymphs and allegorical figures. Bendigo in Victoria, Australia is located in the central Victorian Goldfields. As a legacy of the gold boom, Bendigo has many magnificent and ornate buildings built in a late Victorian colonial style contributing to its picturesque cityscape. It is a grand and gracious city and the place of one of the world’s most exciting gold rushes, with more gold found there between 1850 and 1900 than anywhere else in the world. The city is literally built on gold, gathered from the rich gold-bearing quartz reefs. Image copyright ©wdphotografics 2009-2014. chromaticvista.blogspot.com
